Closot for Slack

Closot is a workspace for notes, docs, and databases. The Slack integration lets your team create and find Closot pages without leaving Slack, turn any Slack message into a tracked item, and keep a Slack thread and its Closot page in sync as the conversation continues.

What the app does in Slack

Create pages with a slash command

Run /closot createPrivatePage or /closot createPublicPage in any channel. A dialog opens where you enter a title and description, and optionally pick a Closot database to file the page under. Submitting the dialog creates the page in your connected Closot workspace.

Search your workspace

Run /closot search <query> to search page titles in your connected workspace. Results are shown only to you, with links that open each page in Closot.

Turn a message into a Closot item

Open the context menu on any Slack message and choose Report a bug. The message text is pre-filled into a dialog where you can edit the title, choose a destination database, and set a status before saving it to Closot.

Two-way thread sync

When the app creates a page from Slack, it posts a confirmation message and attaches a thread to it. Replies posted in that Slack thread appear as comments on the Closot page, and comments added in Closot appear as replies in the Slack thread.

Link previews

Paste an app.closot.com page link into a channel and the app expands it into a preview showing the page title and its author. Only links to that domain are unfurled.

Multiple Closot workspaces

If you belong to more than one Closot workspace, run /closot workspaces to choose which one your Slack actions write to. The choice is per person, so teammates in the same Slack workspace can each target a different Closot workspace. Run /closot info to see which workspace is currently selected.

How to install

Closot connects Slack from inside your Closot workspace, so the install is started from Closot rather than from this page. The app needs to know which Closot workspace to link the Slack workspace to, which is why a Closot account is required first. Installing takes about a minute:

Create a Closot account at app.closot.com, or sign in if you already have one. Signing up is free.
In the left sidebar, open Settings → Connections.
Find the Slack card and click Connect. A Slack window opens showing the permissions the app requests.
Pick the Slack workspace you want to connect and click Allow. You are returned to Closot and the Slack card now shows as connected.
In Slack, invite the app to any channel you want to use it in by typing /invite @Closot, then try /closot info to confirm the connection.

To disconnect, return to Settings → Connections in Closot, click Manage on the Slack card, and choose Delete. You can also remove the app from the Slack side at any time through your Slack workspace’s app management settings.

When the app posts in Slack

The app only posts in response to something a person does. It does not post on a schedule and does not read or reply to ordinary channel conversation. Specifically, it posts when:

Someone creates a page from Slack — the app posts a confirmation with a link to the new page, in the channel the action was started from, and attaches a thread to it.
Someone adds a comment on a Closot page that has a Slack thread attached — the comment appears as a reply in that thread.
Someone pastes an app.closot.com link — the app attaches a preview to that message.
Someone runs /closot search, /closot info, or /closot workspaces — the response is visible only to the person who ran the command.
Someone opens the app’s Messages tab for the first time, or sends it a direct message — the app replies once with a short summary of how to use it.

Permissions and data

The app requests permission to post messages, respond to the /closot command and the message shortcut, read message history in channels it has been added to (so thread replies can be synced), and unfurl app.closot.com links. It reads Slack profile display names so that pages created from Slack are attributed to the right person. It does not request access to your Slack email address.

Content you send to Closot from Slack — page titles, descriptions, and synced thread replies — is stored in your Closot workspace. See our Privacy Policy for how that data is handled, our sub-processor list for where it is processed, and our security page for our vulnerability disclosure program.

To request deletion of data associated with your Slack integration, email privacy@closot.com. Disconnecting Slack in Settings → Connections removes the stored connection and access token immediately.
